This month I have been in the studio laying down guitar demos for my solo album. It feels great to be working again after the not so pleasant way in which my band Sorcha and The Sinners came to an abrupt end in December last year. I learned a lot from that experience and am very proud of the work we did and the killer record we made in 2012. The band lived fast and died young so it would seem. Arda and Dan are amazing musicians and I'm sure they will go far. I hope to don the Rock Bitch again in the future but for now I feel more of a Soft Power coming over me as some old friends emerge from the vault and ask that I put them on this album.
The recording process is a slow and steady one. I have no particular release date set so I feel free to explore the songs and their potential. The engineer is very patient, encouraging and creative and already he's experimenting with some soundscapes that are quite complementary to my basic guitar and vocal tracks. It feels very humbling to be going back to working with musical theory, BPM determination and metronome work but hey, that's the name of the game.
I was interested to explore a different recording frequency for this album so we've set the guitar tuning to 432hz as opposed to the standard tuning of 440hz. After some research on the topic I disocvered that 432hz, when heard by the human body, is felt more in the chest/heart region whereas 440hz is felt more in the head region. There is a theory that the change from 432 Hz to 440 Hz was dictated by Nazi propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels. He used it to make people think and feel a certain manner, and to make them a prisoner of a certain consciousness. Then around 1940 the United States introduced 440 Hz worldwide, and finally in 1953 it became the ISO 16-standard. Apparently The Beatles were suss on this and recorded their tunes at the "warmer" temperature of 432hz. Perhaps that's why they were so popular?
"She LOVES you, yeah yeah yeah yeah...."
PS. Whether or not the above theory is true or not is up to the individual to decide. I have had a comment on this post that the 432hz theory is bogus. Whatever the case I'm curious to explore this phenomena.
