September Diary

9月3日水曜日

It’s a Wednesday in September and I’m feeling excited about a few things.

I’m doing the final mix for my forthcoming record “Silver Lining”. My mate is teaching me how to pilot the Logic Pro ship, and I’m keen to learn and get better at making mistakes. I’ve always been such a perfectionist, if I don’t get it the first try, I just freak out. Not very dignified, right? So I’m learning to fail gracefully lol.

The album cover is also requiring some love. I have a team of awesome people helping me bring this baby into the world. It’s gonna be November that she really comes forth. The “Silver Lining” ship will be setting sail and I’m starting to feel more confident about launching this thing. It’s been a while since I created a full length album, and in this day and age of instant gratification, I can honestly say this is soul work. I am devoted to this creature and although I’m making it, it doesn’t really belong to me. It’s gonna be a gift to the world. I will give it as much love and magic as possible, because it’s something I believe in.

I will pop it in my website window first. I believe that people should want to  pay for music. I remember saving up my earnings as a teenager to buy Jeff Buckley’s “Grace” album. That was like unwrapping a precious jewel. And now that he’s gone, hearing those songs is like a gift that keeps on giving. I’m glad I could pay him something for his effort.

I could wax on about how the music industry today is like a puppet show gallery, but I think being an artist worth their salt is brave. It’s easy to just go into things for the money and the glory. It’s another to enter into the void and bring back treasures that feed the soul. I hope people will join me on this musical journey!
