The tree is cheerily winking its lights at me and I am under the heated table again, because it do be getting a bit frosty out there!
I'm celebrating the good night's sleep I finally had last night after being very restless recently. I'm currently on winter break from the high school where I work and am in that weird Christmas-land phenomena a lot of us love and loathe at the same time.
Seeing the news about Australia banning social media to kids under 16. At first i was skeptical - as in - they'll find a way around it, but on second thought I think it's a real bitch move by the Australian people/government! I haven't seen a David vs Goliath story like this in a while. Sticking it to the Tech Bro Country Club is so inspiring! Finally, a government not bending over for their Tech Overlords!
The kids are naturally having a meltdown - right before Christmas holidays too. That's a bit sadistic I must admit, but… it'll be the summer of getting out amongst it for the kiddies! Maybe they can go and have some unsupervised Goonie adventures and give the parents a break.
However, parents are going to be the ultimate gatekeepers. They pay the power bills for their kids devices after all. Some are going to capitulate and let their kid use their accounts, or others will hopefully work with their kid and suggest other ways to spend their time (Xennials knew how to play!!) Kids can still call or text their local friends - getting away from the millions of strangers is the real issue here.
In my late teens I went into chatrooms on the computers at my university lab. You had to be 16 to enter. There were some weirdos online for sure! Crikey.
So, I get that this must be tough for the kiddies. But 16 is a good age. You can get your learner's license to drive in most states, explore things like sex, drugs and rock n roll and then get your wings to use the internet safely. This is gonna be a good thing!! Have an adventurous summer! I envy you all the warmth…
On another note regarding the “Silver Lining” album. I am planning a tour. Local at first, then hopefully further afield. If you want to get in touch and suggest places for me to play please do!
The new record will go up on BandCamp for Yule/Xmas. I'd like to get it out there a bit more - it's a Christmas Gift! So far the response has been great. Thank you to everyone who has visited this website to listen/buy the album. It means a bunch. ありがとうございます!
